Jelloslave at Aster Cafe

See Jelloslave live at Aster Cafe, Friday, May 22, 2015, 9:00pm – 11:00pm.

Come celebrate spring with us! After a long winter’s nap the two cello, tablas and drums combo Jelloslave returns bright-eyed and bushy-tailed to the Aster Cafe! Joining the party that night will be two special musical projects featuring Jacqueline and Michelle, The Starfolk and 2Red.

The Starfolk (as a trio) | 9:00 – 9:30 | Guitar, bass, cello, and vocals…

starfolk trioThe Starfolk makes melody-rich chamber pop music that rocks in front man Brian Tighe’s quintessentially ethereal way. Tighe fronted power-pop darlings The Hang Ups in the 90’s, co-fronts bittersweet girl-boy poppers The Owls, and plays lead guitar with the belovedly hush-toned Jeremy Messersmith. They often perform with a drummer, but The Starfolk three-piece highlights the more subtle chamber folk/pop connection with Allison LaBonne (The Owls, Typsy Panthre) on bass and vocals, and Jacqueline Ultan (Jelloslave, Saltee) on cello. Their debut full length is out now on Korda Records.

2RED | 9:30 – 10:00 | Cello, Voice, Effects and Loops…

michelle kinneyQueen Drea and Michelle Kinney play with dense layers of cello and vocal orchestrations, combining distinctly different musical influences and styles, to create a sound like no other. 2Red may come to the gig with a framework of original songs and surprising covers, but due to their mutual love of improvisation, EVERY performance will be different!
